Hello, family.
I want to talk to the women who have lost so much that they no longer recognize the lives they're living.
The women who have buried children. Who have lost families to estrangement. Who have been
abandoned, betrayed, dismissed, silenced, and told to move on.
The women who have spent years trying to understand what happened,
trying to repair what was broken, trying to make peace
with things that should never have happened in the first place.
I know something about those women.
I'm one of them.
And I've come to understand something extraordinarily important.
A WOMAN WHO BELIEVES SHE HAS NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE MAY BE STANDING
AT THE BEGINNING OF HER GREATEST WORK.
Because there comes a point when grief changes.
When the fear of what other people might think begins to lose its power.
When the need for approval no longer determines what we're willing to say.
When we realize that we have spent so much of our lives fighting to hold on to people who have
already let go that we've forgotten the extraordinary power we still possess.
Our knowledge. Our experience. Our voices. Our compassion. Our capacity to love fiercely
and stand beside another human being when the rest of the world walks away.
THAT IS POWER.
And I have absolutely no intention of allowing it to go to waste.
The Daughter Wound Project™ was born from grief. But it was never intended to
become a place where women simply gather to rehearse their suffering.
We will bear witness. We will document what happened. We will name what others would prefer remain hidden.
But witnessing is only the beginning.
WE ARE BUILDING A MOVEMENT.
A movement of women who understand what loss can do to a human being—and what purpose can restore.
Women who are willing to become Fierce Friends.
Women who recognize that another woman's struggle is not somebody else's problem.
Women who will use their knowledge, their abilities, their experience, and whatever resources
they possess to make a difference in the lives of others.
Maybe that means helping a woman obtain something she desperately needs.
Maybe it means standing beside someone who has been silenced.
Maybe it means researching an injustice, documenting the evidence,
challenging a lie, teaching a skill, making a telephone call,
or showing up when everybody else has disappeared.
THE FRONT LINES ARE EVERYWHERE.
In our homes. In our neighborhoods. In our communities. In the institutions that were supposed to protect us.
And no woman has to wait until she's completely healed to become part of the work.
We will discover one another as we work.
We will build friendships through shared purpose.
We will learn what each of us can contribute.
And we will create something that no single woman, including me, could possibly accomplish alone.
THIS CANNOT REST ON ONE WOMAN.
I am asking you to become part of it.
Not merely to follow a page. Not merely to receive another email.
I'm asking you to stand with us.
To bring your experience, your ideas, your determination, and your willingness
to do something meaningful with the life that remains in front of you.
Because whether you are 40, 60, 80, or somewhere in between,
YOU ARE NOT FINISHED.
And neither am I.
The Daughter Wound Project™ is a woman-centered documentary, educational, and advocacy movement.
We exist to bear witness to women's lives, document what has been hidden or dismissed, challenge misinformation, preserve evidence, and make certain women's voices are part of the historical record.
DOCUMENT. RESEARCH. EDUCATE. GIVE VOICE. BUILD UNDERSTANDING. INSPIRE CHANGE.
We stand for women who have been silenced, dismissed, exploited, abandoned, or denied the dignity of being heard.
We stand for women navigating trauma, mental suffering, family fracture,
injustice, grief, and the difficult work of rebuilding their lives.
And we stand for the women coming after us.
Our work rests on four foundations:
Mental Dis-ease. The Micro Daughter Wound.
The Macro Daughter Wound. Life After the Daughter Wound.
Through our website, we're building a permanent home for research, documentary records,
original writing, educational resources, and two substantial collections of advocacy graphics
that women will be able to examine, share, and put to work in their own communities.
Our Sanctuary is a place to learn, speak, be heard, and recover strength.
Our Island is where women find one another, become Fierce Friends,
discover their abilities, and begin building something together.
Some women will arrive exhausted and in need of support.
Others will arrive ready to contribute their knowledge, experience, and determination.
Most of us will find ourselves on both sides of that equation at different times.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ARRIVE HEALED.
But I want you to understand the extraordinary opportunity before us.
We're not building an audience that watches one woman do the work.
We're building a movement where women share knowledge, challenge injustice, offer practical assistance,
stand beside one another, and carry what they learn back into the world.
A movement where one woman discovers something valuable and teaches the next.
Where one woman finds her voice and makes room for another.
Where one woman gets tired and another takes her place.
THIS MOVEMENT CANNOT REST ON ONE WOMAN.
Because I cannot be everywhere.
BUT WE CAN.
Leave your email address so we can stay connected, share the work ahead,
and invite you to participate as this movement grows.
There is no membership fee. No obligation to participate in anything you're not comfortable doing.
And your contact information will not be displayed publicly. Or sold. EVER.
My book, The Holidays After the Daughter Wound, is permanently free to read online.
You do not need to provide an email address to receive that gift.
This invitation is different.
This is about what we can build together.
You have survived things that might have convinced another person to surrender.
You are still here.
You still have something to offer.
And somewhere out there is another woman who needs precisely what you have learned.
PURPOSE RESTORED.
From one grieving mother's heart to another, all my love and understanding.
And, I hope like hell to see YOU on the island!
